The Prophecy at Rome – Part I

AS serious disasters in nature continue to seige the world, the prophecy given in Rome in 1975 in the presence of Pope Paul VI is taking on greater urgency and meaning day by day.

In Episode 10 of Embracing Hope, Mark shares this prophecy and why it plays a role in understanding where we are at in salvation history. In future episodes, Mark will examine this prophecy line by line in the light of Church teaching and our Blessed Mother’s apparitions to help us understand how this prophecy may be reaching fulfillment in our times.

TUESDAY, JUNE 20, 1961: VISION OF A MYSTERIOUS "SHINING CLOUD"

After school and the homework being done, the girls, as on the previous evening, wanted to go to the calleja. In spite of the worry caused by the situation, their families let the girls go. They almost sneaked their way out of the village to the site of the mysterious rendezvous. When they finished the rosary, the Angel had not yet showed up; the girls were about to go down to the village. . . "when, suddenly, we saw a very bright light that hid us from one another. We were completely dazzled by this light, and we started to scream for we were terrified ('asustadas', an adjective here that describes a sort of sacred fear). But this shining light had already disappeared" (Conchita's Diary, p.25). In this context, it is impossible not thinking about the biblical theme of the "(shining) cloud," which, following the apparition of the Angel on the previous 18th of June, denotes the second of the four manifestations of the Shekinah. As was the case in the Transfiguration of Christ, the cloud is also the sign of the tangible presence of the Glory of the living God. It thus recalls, thanks also to the famous "pillar of smoke and fire", the pilgrimage, the crossing of the desert, in other words, the exodus of the Jewish People, more, of the People of the New Covenant, the "eschatological Israel" towards the ultimate "Promised Land." This is also the basic structure of the Apocalypse (Book of Revelation). . . [Excerpted from 'Garabandal' Book, pages 30, 31.]

Shekinah means Divine Presence. At Fatima, the Angel appeared as a white light, Lucia said his garments were "white as snow"! And the three children were filled with the 'Divine Presence' that left them almost paralyzed, unable to even speak. It took about three days for them to get back to normal. It's interesting that Lucia's parents were against her going to the apparition site, whereas the girls of Garabandal were immediately allowed to go back again! 'Different strokes for different folks', as they say . . .

MONDAY, JUNE 19, 1961: THE ANGEL OF GOD WILL COME BACK

The next day, the four young girls went back, at the same time of the day and to the same spot, to wait for the Angel. The whole village then knew about the apparition. On their way up the visionaries put up with a few jeers. Unimpressed, they recited the rosary at the calleja. But the Angel did not show up. "If he was really the Angel, he will come back," the teacher, Mrs. Gomez (see note below) assured them. . . At 10:00 p.m., while the girls were beginning their evening prayers, each one heard in her room a voice saying: "Do not fear! You will see me again."

Dona Serafina Gomez, (pictured above) the schoolteacher to whom, on the same
evening (Sunday, June 18), the visionaries reported their experience. She trusted the visionaries and, far from showing a priori an opposition, she suggested to the girls, who had taken refuge in the church after their ecstasy, to recite one station (see note below) before the Blessed Sacrament in thanksgiving for what had just
happened.

The "station" is a Spanish devotion to the Blessed Sacrament, and consists in reciting six Our Fathers, six Hail Marys, six Glory Bes, a Creed and a Salve Regina, with the invocation "Long live Jesus in the Holy Sacrament! May He be loved by all!"

Notice that the girls were saying their prayers before bed time! A good lesson for us who forget this important part of the day. We would all sleep better if we said some good Act of Contrition and a few Our Fathers, Hail Marys, Glory Bes to fall asleep with! The three seers of Fatima also said the rosary before the Angel appeared to them, but a short one that only repeated the Hail Mary, Hail Mary, Hail Mary, etc. over and over. That changed into a full rosary after the Angel instructed them and Our Lady told them to pray the rosary every day for world peace . . . Our Lady also said that Francisco would have to pray many rosaries in order to get to heaven! And we think we say enough prayers! He was only a child of 9 with very few sins, if any. I probably will have to say millions of rosaries until the end of the world to get to heaven!!!

IN coming times, God’s mercy is going to come in various ways—but not all of them easy. Again, I believe we may be on the verge of seeing the last Six Seals of Revelation defiinitively opened, the hard labor pains at the end of this era. By this, I mean that war, economic collapse, famine, plagues, and persecution are imminent, though only God knows the times and seasons (see The Seven Year Trial-Part II). Yes, I know—it sounds like "doom and gloom." But in many ways, it is the only hope some souls have, and perhaps the only means left to bring nations back to the Father…

NEAR DEATH EXPERIENCES

We’ve all heard the stories of survivors of near-death experiences. The common theme is that, in an instant, they saw their lives flash before their eyes. A victim of a plane crash in Utah recounted this experience:

A series of pictures, words, ideas, understanding… It was a scene from my life. It flashed before me with incredible rapidity, and I understood it completely and learned from it. Another scene came, and another, and another, and I was seeing my entire life, every second of it. And I didn’t just understand the events; I relived them. I was that person again, doing those things to my mother, or saying those things to my father or brothers or sisters, and I knew why, for the first time, I had done them or said them. Entirety does not describe the fullness of this review. It included knowledge about myself, that all the books in the world couldn’t contain. I understood every reason for everything I did in my life. —The Other Side, by Michael H. Brown, p. 8

Often, people have experienced such an "illumination" moments before death, or what appeared to be imminent death.

MERCY IN CHASTISEMENT

Understand what I am trying to say: the Great Storm that is here and coming is bringing with it chaos. But it is this very destruction which God will use to draw souls to Himself who otherwise would not repent. When the World Trade Center towers collapsed, how many souls cried out to Heaven as they faced the last few moments of their mortality? How many repented as Hurricane Katrina brought them face to face with death? How many souls called upon the name of the Lord as the Asian Tsunami swept over their heads?

…and it shall be that everyone shall be saved who calls on the name of the Lord. (Acts 2:21)

God is far more interested in our eternal destiny than our temporal comfort. If His permissive Will allows such tragedies to occur, who knows what graces He infuses in those last few moments? When we hear accounts from those who have had brushes with death, it would seem that there are great graces for at least some souls. Perhaps these are graces that were merited for them by the prayers and sacrifices of others, or by an act of love earlier in their life. Only Heaven knows, but with the Lord…

We know that all things work for good for those who love God… (Rom 8:5)

Perhaps a soul who "loved God" in so far as they truly and sincerely followed their conscience, but through no fault of their own rejected "religion," will be given graces of repentance before the calamity strikes (cf. Catechism n. 867-848), for…

Love covers a multitude of sins. (1 Pt 4:8)

This does not mean that a soul should wait until the last minute to depend upon such graces. Souls that do so are gambling with their eternal souls.

God is generous, though, and willing to give eternal life to the one who repents even "at the last second." Jesus told the parable of two groups of workers, some who began early in the day, and others who came in "at the last hour" to work. When it came time to pay them wages, the owner of the vineyard gave equal wages to all. The first group of workers complained:

‘These last ones worked only one hour, and you have made them equal to us, who bore the day’s burden and the heat.’ He said to one of them in reply, ‘My friend, I am not cheating you. Did you not agree with me for the usual daily wage? Take what is yours and go. What if I wish to give this last one the same as you? Or am I not free to do as I wish with my own money? Are you envious because I am generous?(Matt 20:12-15)

Then [the good thief] said, "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom." He replied to him, "Amen, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise." (Luke 23:42-43)

HOPE

St. Paul teaches that it is God’s will that all should be saved. Heaven, then, is doing everything possible in this late hour to arrange the opportunity for the salvation of souls as much as freedom permits. Chastisements are coming in which the good and the bad will be taken. But it should bring us hope that, despite the coming darkness, light will be given in ways that we cannot comprehend. Millions of souls might perish if they were to continue on as they have been until now, living out their last days to old age. But through trial and tribulation, illumination and repentance, they may in fact be saved through Mercy in chaos.

God’s mercy sometimes touches the sinner at the last moment in a wondrous and mysterious way. Outwardly, it seems as if everything were lost, but it is not so. The soul, illumined by a ray of God’s powerful final grace, turns to God in the last moment with such a power of love that, in an instant, it receives from God forgiveness of sin and punishment, while outwardly it shows no sign either of repentance or of contrition, because souls [at that stage] no longer react to external things. Oh, how beyond comprehension is God’s mercy! But—horror!—there are also souls who voluntarily and consciously reject and scorn this grace! Although a person is at the point of death, the merciful God gives the soul that interior vivid moment, so that if the soul is willing, it has the possibility of returning to God. But sometimes, the obduracy in souls is so great that consciously they choose hell; they [thus] make useless all the prayers that other souls offer to God for them and even the efforts of God Himself… —Diary of St. Faustina, Divine Mercy in My Soul, n. 1698

From Mark Mallett: Another Excellent Writing Regarding the Present Crisis in the World

11:11

FOR some time now, I have spoken with the occasional reader who is befuddled as to why they are suddenly seeing the number 11:11 or 1:11, or 3:33, 4:44, etc. Whether glancing at a clock, a cellphone, television, page number, etc. they are suddenly seeing this number "everywhere." For instance, they won’t look at the clock all day, but suddenly feel the urge to look up, and there it is again.

Is it just coincidence? Is there a "sign" involved? My first reaction was that it is just coincidence, that it is what it is, and that there is a even a danger to attempt to read something into numbers (ie. numerology). But then… I started to see this everywhere myself, sometimes 3-4 times a day. And so recently, I asked the Lord if this has any meaning. Immediately the "scales of justice" came into my mind’s eye with the understanding that 11:11 shows a balance, so to speak, of mercy vs. justice, but 1:11 shows a "tipping" of the scale, as does any triple number such as 3:33.

Tipping in what direction…?

TIPPING THE SCALES

The sense I had with this image is that humanity as a whole is tipping the scales of justice through abortion, the promotion of alternative lifestyles to children, pornography, the abuse of creation, the misuse of "just war", the continued neglect of the poor in third world countries, sexual abuse and apostasy in the Church, etc. God, in His infinite mercy, has given humanity the better part of a century to change course—such was the warning at Fatima. But there seems little evidence that the world is heeding the warnings of Heaven as nations continue to open the door to abortion, condone "gay marriage", and even reject the mention of God and His relevance in society.

What I am saying is nothing new. The Lord already gave the forecast for our times in the 1930’s in His revelations to St. Faustina:

Speak to the world about My mercy; let all mankind recognize My unfathomable mercy. It is a sign for the end times; after it will come the day of justice. —Jesus to St. Faustina, Divine Mercy in My Soul, n. 635
I gave the Savior to the world; as for you, you have to speak to the world about His great mercy and prepare the world for the Second Coming of Him who will come, not as a merciful Savior, but as a just Judge. Oh, how terrible is that day! Determined is the day of justice, the day of divine wrath. The angels tremble before it. Speak to souls about this great mercy while it is still the time for [granting] mercy… Fear nothing. Be faithful to the end. —Mary to St. Faustina, Divine Mercy in My Soul, n. 848

Are these little "signs" in the clock a "word" that time is running out, at least in terms of the beginning of this period of justice (see Two More Days)? While preparing this meditation, someone sent me a news article of an interview with Fr. Thomas Euteneuer, president of Human Life International, an organization on the forefront of fighting against the holocaust of abortion. Fr. Thomas points out that previous civilizations collapsed once moral degradation infected their core.

A moral degradation precedes social and political degradation… The social crisis happens when we elect people to rule over us who are immoral. That is not an isolated incident anymore. We have immoral activists at every branch of government and everywhere we turn around the pagans are in charge of our institutions… We’ve got a serious crisis on the horizon. I’m not a prophet of doom but I don’t see this going any other way but a serious political crisis that’s going to affect the globe. —Fr. Just how long this crisis takes to unfold is uncertain, though Pope Benedict notes in his latest encyclical how rapidly changes are taking place on a global scale, in the present…

…cultural and moral crisis of man, the symptoms of which have been evident for some time all over the world… The principal new feature has been the explosion of worldwide interdependence, commonly known as globalization. Paul VI had partially foreseen it, but the ferocious pace at which it has evolved could not have been anticipated. —POPE BENEDICT XVI, Caritas in Veritate, n. 32-33

As I mentioned in Episode 6 of Embracing Hope, the crisis is not that a new world order is forming, but that it is forming without a moral compass. As such, there is a growing sense in the Body of Christ that, at some point, God’s merciful justice will intervene in a dramatic way.

I just have this intuition that the way things are going, they’re getting worse, they’re declining, they’re dismantling, and that can only mean some form of major destruction down the road. The ones who are now presently on the side of the angels are the ones who are going to get through that. And to bring others along with them back to God. —Fr. PREPARING
Part of the purpose of these writings and my webcast is to prepare the reader for these future crises, which really are unfolding already. The purpose of our preparation is not a matter of producing a survivalist mentality, but as Fr. Thomas points out, a preparation to "bring others along with [us] back to God." For that very reason, God’s angels will indeed protect and guide many of us through these dramatic times.
But then there will be others who, while receiving God’s spiritual protection, may not always be given physical protection. We know this already as daily we face the mystery of suffering and death, especially the death of loved ones who, despite their commitment to God, were called home according to God’s Divine Will. We need to be ready to meet God at any time, of course. But even more so as the world seems to be plunging more certainly toward ’serious crisis’. I want to point out this gentle exhortation and warning given from a messenger many of you are familiar with, and who has the approval and support of her bishop (I have underlined the pertinent words):

Abandon yourself to My providence completely… Avoid being trapped by the past and avoid being drawn into a future on earth which may not include you. You do not know when I will come for you. But I am with you now, as you read these words, and I have work for you today. Look, together with Me, at what I am asking of you and together we will be a successful force for love. I crave love from you. When you trust Me and reject fear, I am delighted. Calm, steady service is what I require from My beloved apostles who seek to serve Me. Be at peace. I am with you. —Anne, January 1, 2010, directionforourtimes.com

Jesus warns in Mark 13:33, "Be watchful! Be alert! You do not know when the time will come," and again in Matthew 24:42, "Therefore, stay awake! For you do not know on which day your Lord will come." When the world sows in over 50 million abortions each year, and shows no signs of repentance, it is hard to say just how we will reap the blood that has been shed. And so, we need always be ready to meet our Lord. The Scriptures continually call us to be pilgrims, our eyes fixed upon the homeland of Heaven. This is the source of our hope and joy, and the grace and strength we need to face the uncertain world before us. God, who is constant love and hope, has, I believe, many surprises to come—especially the revelation of His vast and infinite mercy when our world least deserves it. This, more than anything, we should be prepared for, so that when the time comes we are in fact apostles of Divine Mercy.

…before I come as the just Judge, I am coming first as the King of Mercy. Before the day of justice arrives, there will be given to people a sign in the heavens of this sort: All light in the heavens will be extinguished, and there will be great darkness over the whole earth. Then the sign of the cross will be seen in the sky, and from the openings where the hands and the feet of the Savior were nailed will come forth great lights which will light up the earth for a period of time. This will take place shortly before the last day. —Jesus to St. Faustina, Divine Mercy in My Soul, n. 83

There is a multitude of interpretations as to what 11:11 or these other numbers mean. One thing it seems for certain is that the scales of justice are tipping, and so, we should remain calm and at peace, but always as our Lord commands, awake.

The nations have fallen into the pit that they made… (Psalm 9A:16)

SAINT MICHAEL THE ARCHANGEL APPEARS

While the girls were happily biting the fruit of their innocent petty thieving, a thunderclap and a lightning flash zigzagged across an otherwise perfectly clear sky. . . . It was 8:30 p.m. Frightened, the children began to be sorry for their mischief when suddenly an Angel appeared . . . Conchita was the first to see him, hardly a minute before the others all cried out at the same time: "Aye! The Angel!" Then falling into an ecstasy, they contemplated him in silence. The Angel appeared to the children, wearing a blue tunic, with dark eyes and hair, a mat complexion, and "wings that looked as if they were made of fire," according to Conchita. "A very beautiful person, surrounded by a very strong light that did not hurt the eyes," the visionary again pointed out. According to Jacinta, "the Angel appeared to be nine years old, but 'very strong.' He looked like a young boy, but before him we felt great respect."

We are almost certain now that the angel who appeared at Fatima was also St Michael. At Garabandal, we are sure of that, since on the following 2nd of July the girls learned his identity from Our Lady herself.

So here again we see the connection to the Fatima apparitions, first because of the thunder and lightning which preceded the apparitions and second because before Our Lady appeared to the three children at Fatima, St. Michael appeared, and after teaching them some Eucharistic Prayers, gave them Holy Communion! Lucia received the Host and Francesco and Jacinta received the Precious Blood from the chalice. Amazing! Many people don't realize this or know about it when they read the Fatima Story. I thank God and our dearest Mother Mary for infusing the Fatima Prayers into my mind and allowing me to pray them each day after receiving Holy Communion!
