Comillas—October 28, 1961
Letter to Mr. Rafael Fontaneda
“I have received certain news about Garabandal, and if you don’t know it, I’ll tell you. It refers to the vision that they had from Thursday night to Friday morning, According to what they have told me, it was impressive, with a great quantity of detail and strange things. They descended the stairs head first—a brother-in-law of mine who witnessed this told me. He didn’t know how to tell me in more detail, but I asked him how they had done it and how their dresses had stayed on.
What has been most impressive is to see the girls fall in ecstasy on their knees, in the middle of a pond and it was later verified that they were not wet, nor were their dresses. Upon seeing this, they returned to the pond and they made a test by stepping into the pond very forcefully, and the water splashed and wet their pants. The witnesses of this are from a village next to Comillas.
